Free Spirit: Rebecca de Ravenel

We’re thrilled to have found a kindred spirit in designer Rebecca de Ravenel. The designer (and CFDA Fashion Fund finalist) shares both our love for color and passion for animals.

After making a name for herself with her signature Les Bonbons earrings, the L.A. based designer, who flitted between Paris and the Bahamas growing up, has expanded her label to include a ready-to-wear collection that telegraphs the tropical, urban elegance she’s known for. Olivia was thrilled when Rebecca approached her to collaborate on a beauty look for her Spring/Summer 19 presentation during New York Fashion week.

We’re convinced Rebecca is about to be a household name—she sat down with Le Magazine to discuss inspiration, conservation, and what’s she’s working on next.

Who are your style icons?

Loulou de la Falaise for her sense of color, Bianca Jagger for her flair and my mother for her never-ending chic.

Do you have a wellness approach or method to help keep you grounded and healthy during Fashion Week?

Sleep (!!) and Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer. A little bit on your cheeks every day gives you that ‘just got back from holiday’ glow.

"I dream of the day I walk into a dinner party and see my tabletop, with guests wearing my clothes and earrings...pinch me!"

Interiors are on the horizon for you—what approach do you take when designing for the table or the home? Is it the same as accessories or RTW?

My whole mantra has always been dressing the divine girl in the divine room. Interiors are just as much of a passion of mine as fashion is. I hope to be launching my home collection soon, it has been a long time coming. I dream of the day I walk into a dinner party and see my tabletop, with guests wearing my clothes and earrings...pinch me!

We know you share our passion for protecting the planet and the animals we share it with. Can you tell us more about that and your personal approach to conservation?

I am an animal lover and will not work with any animal products, nor do I wear any animal products. It has always been very important to me that my beliefs are reflected in the things that I make, wear and the companies I align myself with. Each month I make a donation of sales to the Bahamas Humane Society and the ASPCA. I have just adopted my third dog and am told that one more would consider me a legal kennel!

How will you unwind after Fashion Week?

I wish I had time to unwind! It is back to LA to continue working on the Design Challenge for the Fashion Fund and then back to New York for another few weeks….on the road always!

Backstage at the SS19 Presentation

Bold shades of Lip Veil were the star of the beauty look at de Ravenel's Spring presentation.

With Lip Veil in the spotlight, the team created a dreamy take on a sun-kissed holiday look: tawny, luminous skin with a bold statement lip.
