The model and healthcare advocate (inspo alert: she’s a UN Global Health Champion!) is as passionate about healthcare equity as she is about beauty. Delighted to connect with a kindred spirit, we quizzed Diouf on all things lipstick to celebrate the launch of Lip Crème.

What’s your earliest memory of wearing or seeing lipstick?
Cliché, but my earliest memory wearing or seeing lipstick was definitely my mother! African women adorn themselves with gold, silks, fragrance and, of course, makeup to match. I remember the era my mother would match her lipstick to her clothes. I wouldn’t go back, but iconic if you ask me.
What’s your signature shade, if you have one? Why that one?
To say a red lip is my signature shade would not be entirely true. Similar to my mother, I love for my makeup to match the tones and hues of what I’m wearing. Of all the shades, I do appreciate a cherry-blue red with a bit of gloss on top. This is, of course, coupled with red blush to match.
If we peeked into your bag, how many lipsticks would we find?
Considering this is a safe space, this answer depends on the bag & occasion. If I am attending an event or out to dinner, generally I only carry my lip combo for that moment. My travel purse is a completely different situation—I would have one that stains, something glossy, something matte, and a natural, hydrating formula that prioritizes healthy ingredients for my lips.
Has your taste in lipstick shades changed over the years?
My tastes in lipsticks have most definitely matured over the years. I would have never worn red, brown or purple in the past, but now I see lipstick as a means of expressing myself. I never thought of fashion as independent of my beauty looks, but I did limit myself to focus on eye makeup. I’m having so much fun exploring more within the realm of lip looks.

Do you associate any lipsticks with a specific time in your life?
Absolutely! After university, I was obsessed with chocolate brown lipsticks. It was at a time when the beauty industry was not so inclusive and did not prioritize creating deep, dark, rich, brown colors. I think a part of the reason for my obsession with finding these tones was because it was so rare. The gratification of finding something so unique was like a treasure hunt. This is no longer the case!
What’s the first word that comes to mind when you swipe on your favorite lipstick?
I would say it’s rather a sound—the sound of popping my lips together in an effort to blend.
How do you choose the shade you’re going to wear that day?
My lipstick always matches my blush!

Do you have any lipstick secrets or application tips?
You do not always need lip liner. I love when the Parisian girls dab a bit on and kiss a paper towel—so chic! I am currently into the blushing lip trends in South Korea, as well.
What is your favorite thing about Lip Crème?
The formula is SO smooth. Lip Crème applies like butter, making it super blendable for all lip combos and lip trends around the world!
We crafted it to be recyclable! Do you have any sustainable beauty hacks?
I love to recycle old candles to hold make up brushes or cotton swabs.
Is there a shade you wear when you want to feel like your “truest” self?
Wearing red lipstick is my equivalent to the Princess Diana revenge dress. It’s just such a power move! I feel like I am reclaiming my time every time I wear red lipstick.
