CHEETAH, ELEPHANT & GIRAFFE BY MARK DRURYA deep reverence for animals prompted Austin, Texas-based Drury’s first trip to Kenya, a love affair that continues. Conservation of Africa’s sacred lands and the magnificent creatures that call it home are what drive Drury to capture the continent’s wild beauty.
LION BY OLIVER NICKLINKenya-born Nicklin grew up surrounded by the bush and vast wildlife that inhabit it. His work as a safari guide has furthered his intimate knowledge of the landscape that lions, elephants, and other majestic animals call home and given him countless opportunities to capture breathtaking images of the creatures in their natural, wild habitats.
PANGOLIN BY ADRIAN STEIRNAdrian Steirn is a photographer and filmmaker who focuses on using the visual arts for social change and is the founder of 21 Icons and Beautiful News. He released his Pangolin Men series in collaboration with Tikki Hywood Foundation. Steirn received the Commonwealth Point of Light award for his voluntary service campaigning for wildlife conservation.
RHINOCEROS BY MARTIN BUZORABuzora is known for documenting the intimacies of anti-poaching and conservation work in East Africa. His work has earned him nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Factual Series from the Canadian Screen Awards.
Cheetah Conservation Fund
90% of the world’s cheetah have vanished in the last century. Based in Namibia, Cheetah Conservation Fund is helping the planet’s fastest mammal win its race for survival by developing conservancies and teaching farmers how to manage their livestock with trained guarding dogs, so humans and animals can thrive together.
Lion Guardians
Kenya-based Lion Guardians transforms Maasai warriors who once killed lionsinto lion protectors, using their traditional knowledge and new technologies like GPS to monitor lions and protect communities. This empowers local people with both a sense of kinship with lions and the means to participate in their conservation.
Space for Giants
Space for Giants protects elephants in their habitat and the communities that surround them by investing in parcels of land, providing frontline security, boosting wildlife crime convictions, and stopping elephants from raiding people’s crops by building “smart fences” across Kenya, Gabon, Uganda and Botswana.
Giraffe Conservation Foundation
With 111,000 remaining in all of Africa, giraffe are facing a silent extinction. As the only organization in the world dedicated solely to saving giraffe across their range, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation works with partners in 15 African countries, using methods like community-based “giraffe guards,” innovative tracking technology, and translocations.
Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Renowned for their work with elephants, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust also protects rhinos from poaching fueled by the demand for their horns. SWT recently helped expand the Meru National Park Rhino Sanctuary in Kenya, creating more space for rhinos and safe passage for other large species.
Tikki Hywood Foundation
This shy, unique creature is the most trafficked mammal on the planet, coveted for its keratinrich scales, which are falsely believed tohave medicinal properties. The Tikki Hywood Foundation in Zimbabwe focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation and release of pangolin and other illegally traded animals across Africa.
